Cubigel Compressor Guide: Series, Refrigerants and Specifications

Cubigel is one of the most widely used hermetic compressor brands in commercial refrigeration, covering everything from domestic refrigerators and display cabinets through to cold rooms and freezer packs. This guide explains how to read the Cubigel series codes, which series runs on which refrigerant, and what to weigh up when selecting a model.

Which country is Cubigel from?

Cubigel traces back to a compressor plant founded in Spain in 1962, and has carried the Cubigel name since 1988. In 2012 it was acquired by Huayi Compressor Co., Ltd., one of the largest hermetic compressor manufacturers in the world, and production continued under Huayi Compressor Barcelona. That is why you will often see “Cubigel” and “Huayi” mentioned together: Cubigel is the Huayi group’s European commercial refrigeration compressor brand.

Cubigel series and refrigerants

The opening letters of a Cubigel model code identify the series, and the series in turn largely determines the refrigerant. The series in the TURA Soğutma catalogue group as follows.

  • G series (GL, GP, GX, GS, GU, GE), R134a: the standard for medium temperature work such as refrigerators, display cabinets and water coolers. Examples: Cubigel GL 90 TB R134a, Cubigel GP 16 TB R134a.
  • M series (ML, MP, MPT, MX, MS, MST), R404A: designed for commercial refrigeration, cold rooms and low temperature freezing. Examples: Cubigel ML 80 TB R404A, Cubigel MS 34 TB-V R404A.
  • N series (NUY, NPT, NPY, NX, NFT, NST), R290: the newer generation running on propane, with a low global warming potential (GWP). Preferred on projects that must meet environmental regulation. Example: Cubigel NUY 90 RAa R290.
  • H and L series (HPY, HYE, HDL, L), R600a: isobutane models with low energy consumption. Example: Cubigel HPY 11 AA R600a.

For how the refrigerants differ and which suits which application, see our comparison of R134a, R404A and R290.

Selecting the right Cubigel model

  • Application temperature: the R134a G series is the choice for chilled storage at medium temperature; the R404A M series for freezing and cold room duty.
  • Capacity: the digits in the model code relate to the swept volume, and should be chosen against the cooling load of the system. The datasheet (PDF) on each product page carries the full capacity tables.
  • Operating range: LBP, MBP and HBP applications each need a different compressor. Our guide to LBP, MBP and HBP explains what the three ratings mean.

Cubigel compressor prices

The price of a Cubigel compressor varies with the series, the capacity and the refrigerant. List prices excluding VAT for every Cubigel compressor model are published openly on the individual product pages. Contact us for wholesale, dealer and export pricing.

Frequently asked questions

  • Are Cubigel and Huayi the same brand? Cubigel has been part of the Huayi group since 2012, and Cubigel models are manufactured by Huayi Compressor Barcelona.
  • Where can I buy Cubigel compressors? TURA Soğutma is the authorised distributor for Cubigel and Huayi hermetic compressors in Turkey, and exports worldwide. Every model appears in our product catalogue.
  • What does “hermetic” mean here? The motor and compression unit are sealed inside a single welded shell, which minimises refrigerant leakage. See what a hermetic compressor is.
  • How do I get the datasheets? The original manufacturer datasheet (PDF) for each model is downloadable from its product page.

TURA Soğutma holds deep stock of genuine Cubigel compressors and provides technical support. Send us the details of your system and we will help you select the right model.
